He attended Lake Forest Academy and Carroll College – and thrived on playing football throughout his tenure in high school and college. His love of college football continued throughout his lifetime, and he was a charitable donor to Carroll College and routinely attended Northwestern Football games.

He earned his Juris Doctorate from Loyola University School of Law in 1982.

He established a law firm in Waukegan, Illinois where he practiced as an attorney for over 40 years, earning Martindale-Hubbell’s preeminent rating of AV - the highest for ethical standards and legal ability.
